Kutch '15

Nov 9, Monday.

Dada came to drop me till the ever bustling village Naka, where I just hopped into one of the many Toofans zooming towards Gandhidham from Mundra. He waved at me and I waved back. I kept my luggage under the seat. As the toofan accelerated, I looked back towards him. Still, he was still there (Pun intended).... Looking at me.

The road, unlike of Mumbai was a straight one and with very little traffic, there wasn't any other vehicle behind. So even after having driven away 500 meters, I could appreciate a faint shadow of him, save getting smaller and hazier with each passing second...he must have waited there till I went out of the sight.
He waited for me in the blazing hot climate...that moment I will never forget.

I had been in Gundala (Taluka Mundra, District Kutch, State Gujarat) since the past 2 days.
Onward Journey had been 14 hours long, but time flew quickly when I had company of my sister. And it was comfortable traveling in train.

In these past two days of "vacation", all I did was "Eat. Sleep. Pray".

I ate so much and so frequently that I guess my stomach used be loaded with extra work even before he had done the given work of pushing the previous meal into the intestines!

Back to Mumbai, college and the upcoming exams now

Diabetes, Drugs and Darwin

I'm back to writing on the topics I love so much! Philosophy!

Are you still wondering about the title? Well diabetes and drugs are palatable and there's nothing new in it,

Giving drugs is decreasing the quality of our gene pool

We are fooling ourselves

My perception of the world as a child was:
"I'm born in the 21st century and we are the most advanced generation. Humans have progressed so much that all the questions have answers"

Now that I read literature, it dawns upon me that we have always fooled our selves. What we only have are models and hypotheses. This which have arguments and counter arguments. Continuously criticisms and discussions are going on in the world.

How else will we Progress unless we questions to available answers

Unlearn

Learn. Unlearn. Relearn. And, to learn as well as unlearn, for all, u need to make new synapses. Not that - to unlearn the old synapses will be lost.

Brain

Our brain is a master piece. That we ourselves are unable to solve so many mysteries. So is out brain so complicated that our complicated brain cannot understand itself. Or is there lots of improvements possible that will make our brains even more complicated that we can understand it one day! Duh! Forget it. It's complicated.

Debate topic- is it correct to selectively treat people. Not on basis of money but how much good can they do to the society.

Will continued usage of computers and gadgets, shrink our brain capacity?

Which qualities and abilities are genetic and which all are acquired?

Wonder of god

I was reading Robins the other day. And look what I found.

The polymorphism of HLA is a wonder of God indeed. Didn't get it? I ll explain

It states -

"it is believed that this polymorphism evolved to ensure that at least some individuals in a species would be able to display any microbial peptide and thus provide protection against any antigen"

This is an additional safeguard against an apocalypse due to an organism. Because at some one lucky people in the species will be having sensitivity to that particular antigen that rose to threaten mankind. And so those people will survive and continue the species further!!

To be or not to be

You must have seen people to whom people don't pay heed. The words of these people aren't given second thoughts to. They are just taken at face value and forgotten.

And there are other kinds of people. Whose words sting us like a bee. People whose every word is analysed. After the union ministers gave their budget speech or some famous speech, you ll find newspapers the next day giving you the counts of the number of times that minister said "I" in the speech. Imagine! People dissecting each and every part of some ones speech. It definitely takes a lot of effort to reach to that level.

But I think, both the personalities have their pros and cons. On one side is a personality to whom no one listens even if life is in grave danger. And on the other side is a person, who will come on headlines on front pages after every third tweet.

All things are continuous. We have separated them into classes for our convenience.

Take example of  squamous and columnar cells. Then we add low columnar or High columnar or cuboidal.

Cancer-
Benign non proliferative
Benign proliferative without atypia
With atypia
Cancerous malignant.

Crohn disease and ulcerative colitis? There is also intermediate colitis.

Confidence and ability stem from Faith in God

What is Faith?

Faith is a force that is greater
than knowledge or power or skill,
And the darkest defeat turns to triumph
if you trust in God’s wisdom and will,
For faith is a mover of mountains —
there’s nothing man cannot achieve
If he has the courage to try it
and then has the faith to believe.

So, if you have faith and work hard, then I'm sure all roads will lead to only one destination - success!

The death of NEWS

The first rays of warmth wake me up at sunrise. Feeling fresh after a good night's sleep, looking forward to another day of challenges and surprises, I walk towards the sofa and follow my routine. A crisp new copy of TOI is kept on the table, which I fetch to read.

I am greeted by a picture with a breath taking view from a high rise in Mumbai, inviting readers to see their sample flats, inviting the "Mumbai cha manoos" to live his dream, the dream of buying his own house.
That takes me into my world of dreams. The cacophonic sound at home quickly brings me back to reality as I flip over to the next page.
This time, it's an advertisement of a coaching class. Showcasing it's achievements over the past two decades and forcing you to believe that- enrolling your child with them will guarantee an improvement or a seat in preferred college. Well, atleast it's better than seeing the ugly photos of politicians on posters and Banners along the arterial roads, put up of their "chamchas".
Finally after flipping another page comes the headline and cover page news. The things that I am actually interested in.

The print media offers this prime space for a handsome fee, either to sustain the print circulation or to increase the weight of the pockets of its owners.
Columns for advertising is alright, as it's at least ethical. But, what's saddening is "paid news" or news and publicity of an event, in return of publicity/subscriptions of the newspaper.

This trend is actually killing the essence of newspapers - bring out the truth!!
I feel, the advertisements should not be printed on the main page of the newspaper and most relevant news should be published here. It will be of benefit to the masses.
The media is regarded as the fourth pillar of the democracy; it's time there is a change in this and we open our eyes everyday to more relevant details. Otherwise, it won't be long before the NEWS apps and e-papers will one day kill the print circulation!

My sabbatical from writing blogs

I can't think of any topic to write on...writing after a long time....

Being an iPhone user, I felt the memory crunch within few months and I had to delete the "Blogger" app through which I used to post blogs.

Yesterday suddenly a friend asked, do you write blogs. My promt response was, "Yes, I used to". And I felt, I should again start writing blogs, now that I have recently deleted 3GBs of photos from my phone.

After downloading the app again, I checked my last post. It was in September 2014. And today is 14/4/15. A sabbatical of 8 months.

That reminds me of Rahul Gandhi' sabbatical of 55 days from his political life that I read in TOI today morning. His sabbatical was probably for introspection as to what went wrong during the  2014 Lok Sabha polls or to decide the future course of action for his party.

And I pondered, did my sabbatical help me with new ideas for the blogs? Have I improved in blog writing after such a long gap? After being "disconnected"??

I got the answer in the first line of this blog.

  So, I concluded that-
(1)
to think about the future of political party, one has to stay with the grass roots of that party

(2)
to change the system you have to be a part of that system and understand it.

(3)
to study medicine, you have to attend postings, not just sit in library and read.

You might feel the 3 different points are not at all related. Think again.
